What is Parenting Coordination?

Support for High-Conflict Co-Parenting
Gold Coast, Brisbane, Northern Rivers & Online Australia-Wide

When co-parenting communication breaks down or conflict becomes ongoing, even small decisions can turn into repeated disputes.

Parenting coordination provides structured, ongoing support to help parents reduce conflict, implement agreements, and create more workable ways of co-parenting over time.

At TruePath Parenting, I work with families across the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Northern Rivers, as well as online throughout Australia.

What is Parenting Coordination?

Parenting coordination is a child-focused process designed for families experiencing ongoing conflict after separation.

It provides a structured framework where parents can:

  • Address day-to-day parenting disputes

  • Improve communication

  • Clarify and implement existing agreements

  • Reduce the need for repeated legal involvement

This is not about revisiting the entire separation process—it’s about managing what happens next.

When is Parenting Coordination Helpful?

Parenting coordination may be appropriate if:

  • Communication between parents regularly breaks down

  • The same disagreements continue to resurface

  • There is difficulty implementing parenting agreements or court orders

  • Conflict is ongoing and affecting your children

  • Small issues frequently escalate into larger disputes

Many families come to parenting coordination after mediation or court processes, when support is still needed to manage ongoing co-parenting.

How the Process Works

  • Parenting coordination is an ongoing, structured process tailored to your family’s needs.

  • Sessions may include:

  • Identifying and resolving specific parenting disputes

  • Supporting communication between parents

  • Clarifying expectations and agreements

  • Providing guidance to reduce escalation

  • Keeping discussions focused and child-centred

  • The goal is to move away from repeated conflict and toward more stable, manageable co-parenting.

A Structured, Child-Focused Approach

My role as a parenting coordinator is to remain neutral, structured, and focused on outcomes that support your child’s wellbeing.

I don’t take sides, and I don’t add to conflict.

Instead, I provide a steady process that helps reduce reactivity, support clearer communication, and create practical solutions that can actually be maintained.

Counselling-Informed Support

As a family mediator, parenting coordinator, and divorce coach currently completing a Master in Counselling, my approach is informed by both practical experience and a deeper understanding of family dynamics.

This allows me to support not only the resolution of disputes, but also the patterns that contribute to ongoing conflict.

Where appropriate, parenting coordination can also work alongside counselling support to address both practical and emotional challenges.

Parenting Coordination Across the Gold Coast, Brisbane & Northern Rivers

I work with families across:

  • Gold Coast

  • Brisbane

  • Northern Rivers (including Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Ballina and surrounding areas)

Online parenting coordination is also available for families across Australia.

Is Parenting Coordination Right for You?

Parenting coordination is most effective for families who are experiencing ongoing conflict and need structured support to move forward.

If communication feels stuck, conflict continues despite previous agreements, or co-parenting has become difficult to manage, this process can help create a more workable path forward.

An initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your situation, understand how parenting coordination works, and determine whether it is the right fit for your family.

Support is available to help you move out of ongoing conflict and toward more stable co-parenting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both parents need to participate?
In most cases, yes — parenting coordination works best when both parents are involved. However, you’re welcome to reach out to discuss your situation.

Is parenting coordination court-ordered or voluntary?
It can be either. Some families are referred through court orders, while others choose to engage voluntarily for additional support.

Is this confidential?
Parenting coordination is a structured process and may differ from traditional counselling confidentiality, particularly if court orders are involved. This will be clearly explained before we begin.

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your situation. Some families benefit from short-term support, while others engage over a longer period to work through ongoing challenges.
